DEPARTMENT OF CHEMISTRY
Welcome to Chemistry at UMKC
Welcome to the Department of Chemistry at the University of Missouri-Kansas City! We are located in two buildings. Our main office is located in room 205 of the Spencer Chemistry Building (pictured), we have a secondary office located in room 410 of R. H. Flarsheim Hall, and our research facilities and faculty offices are located throughout both buildings.
If you are interested in graduate studies, our department offers a broad range of specializations in the chemical sciences, including Analytical, Inorganic, Organic, Physical, and Polymer Chemistry. We have 16 faculty, 10 master’s students, and 30 interdisciplinary Ph.D. students. At the graduate level, there are 23 research labs and common areas containing major research and teaching instrumentation.
If you are interested in our undergraduate program, the faculty is readily accessible and committed to the education of our students and to developing their knowledge beyond basic science and theory. Our 200 majors acquire specialized academic and career advising tailored to their individual needs, numerous undergraduate research possibilities, courses designed to help them achieve success in their graduate, professional (i.e., medicine and dentistry), or post-collegiate careers, and campus organizations that enhance their curricular experience.
Both graduate and undergraduate students have access to state-of-the-art equipment and one of the nation’s premier science and technology libraries, the Linda Hall Library of Science, Engineering and Technology which is located adjacent to the UMKC campus.
Please look through the chemistry web site. We hope you will be excited by the ongoing activity here both in research and education. If you are interested in attending UMKC, please let us know.
