- This course is new to UMKC starting Fall 2006, so its catalog description is included below.
- This course is part of an expanded sequence of courses designed by the Department of Mathematics and Statistics to provide a substantial and appropriate mathematical education to prospective (or working) elementary-, middle-, and secondary school teachers, and is motivated by recent reports from both the NCTM (National Council of Teachers of Mathematics) and the MAA (Mathematical Association of America).
**Description:**Designed for elementary and middle school mathematics teachers. Foundational knowledge of probability and statistics, elements of statistics, organizing, displaying and describing data, probability, probability distributions, correlation, regression, prediction, estimation. Credit will only be given for**ONE**of Stat 234, Stat 235, or Stat 236.

**Textbook:**"**Data Analysis and Probability Connections**", by Debra Perkowski, Mathematics Dept. Westminster College, and Michael Perkowski, Learning Center, University of Missouri - Columbia to be published by Prentice Hall in 2006. This text is a product of the**Connecting Middle School and College Mathematics**NSF project, 2001-2004, to strengthen and improve the mathematics preparation of middle school mathematics teachers.
