ACADEMIC FREEDOM
Faculty need academic freedom in order to do their job
So does everyone else on campus
Academic freedom includes, among other things:
A) First Amendment Rights -- freedom of speech, press, and assembly
in teaching
in research and publication of results
in deliberating institutional policies
in citizenship outside the academy
B) Fourteenth Amendment Rights -- due process, especially on the job
C) Job security -- the most effective way to guarantee these rights and practices
