about the programEstablished over twenty years ago, the American Studies Program at the University of Missouri-Kansas City offers an interdisciplinary perspective to those students whose primary interest is the examination of life and culture in the United States. Students study American art, history, literature, film, politics, geography, anthropology, sociology and popular culture among other disciplines and foci. In American Studies, students pursue a program tailored to their interests and needs -- one of the few programs in today's structured curricula that provides intellectual rigor and the ability, with the adviser's approval, to design your own studies. The UMKC American Studies Program is open to selected students in good standing. Interested students should consult with the American Studies Director, who will act as their academic adviser upon admittance to the program. Superior work is expected from all students.
