DEPARTMENT OF ART AND ART HISTORY
ART EDUCATION

The Department offers a program in Art teacher training that is one of the most comprehensive in the Kansas City area. At present, there are three options leading to teacher certification:

1. The accelerated program
Students who have graduated with a studio art degree (B.A. or B.F.A.) from another institution may apply for the accelerated program. This program usually requires three semesters including one summer. However, some additional Studio and Art History courses might be required!

2.  B. A. Secondary Education/ B. A. Studio Art
This is a 5-year-program which yields two separate degrees. It is recommended for students who have not yet completed the studio degree and who have the time to get a second Baccalaureate.

3. B. A. Secondary Education - emphasis in art
This degree has less general education requirements than the one above and is offered through the School of Education only.

All three options of the teacher-training program are managed jointly by the Art and Art History Department and the School of Education. Studio art and art history courses as well as observation/field work in public schools are included in all degree requirements.

Students wishing to enroll in Art Education should contact the School of Education Advising Office (245 Education) 615 East 52nd Street
