Criminal Justice and Criminology
Why did you choose your major?
I have been interested in criminal justice since I was very young. I would set up crime scenes for my brothers to solve, and criminal justice has stuck with me ever since. There is always the opportunity to help those in need. I have always been one to root for the underdog.
Have you job shadowed?
I had an incredible experience shadowing a special agent from the Department of Homeland Security during the World Series. I was there the day they learned the identity of a counterfeit merchandise provider, and I was invited to go on my first undercover sting. It felt like a childhood fantasy come true.
Have your professors made an impact on you?
My professors have made more of an impact on me than they could ever know. Not only do they radiate passion and energy to their coursework, but also they were able to ignite that same passion within me.
A couple of them asked me to join their research team, and I had the opportunity to co-author a chapter in an anthology exploring criminological theories associated with the Trayvon Martin case. Truthfully, it was one of the proudest moments of my life. I learned so much through the experience.
