NewsNotes ___________________________________________ Summer/Fall Semester newsletter of the UMKC Center on Aging Studies Gerontology Certificate and Undergraduate Minor Progran
June, 2007
Summer & Fall open registration for current, returning, and new students is now ongoing. Many of you realize that enrollment is late this year. The reason for that is a major updating of UMKC’s data system. We hope that once all systems are fine tuned and humming away, your UMKC experience will be greatly improved! Meanwhile, we hope you will bear with us as we all experience a frustrating time of transition! ENROLLMENT ALERT! Starting immediately, we strongly recommend that you enroll in courses for upcoming semesters as early as possible. A change in the fiscal procedures for UMKC courses has resulted in a need for enrollment minimums to be met at an earlier date than in the past, in order for the course to be run. That means that in some instances, courses with low enrollments will be cancelled much earlier than in the past. Enroll early so that we know your intentions to take the course!! ____________________________________________________ Practicum Seminars Take Summer Vacation May 17th was the date of our last Practicum Seminar for the 2006-2007 academic year. These seminars will resume in September. A notice regarding date, time and location will be sent in early August. Remember, if you enrolled in your Practicum after January 1, 2006, you are required to attend a minimum of three of these seminars. That will reduce your required clock hours from 180 to 177. These seminars are a great vehicle for sharing information, experiences, and challenges you encounter during your field experience with other gerontology students. Guest speakers from within the aging network also provide you with information and resources that can be helpful as you embark on--or advance in--your career in aging. All students in the gerontology program are welcome to participate in these seminars!____________________________________________________ Thought for the Day The only way of finding the limits of the possible is by going beyond them into the impossible.
