MYTH: Abuse Of Older Adults Occurs When Overworked Caregivers Are Pushed To Their Limits By Demanding Elderly Persons.

Answer:

True
 and

False

There is research to confirm that caregivers under stress do deliver much abuse. The most consistent one factor to predict abuse is past family violence level.  Abusers, though, are generally dependent upon the people they abused. Older adults feel responsible for their children and allow them to stay. Often the abused elderly person is caring for an ill husband or alcoholic or mentally ill child.
