Classical and ancient Studies
The Kansas City/Lawrence AIA Chapter
The National Organization The Archaeological Institute of America (AIA) has been dedicated to the encouragement and support of archaeological research and publication and to the protection of the world's cultural heritage for more than a century. A non-profit cultural and educational organization chartered by the US Congress, it is the oldest and largest archaeological organization in North America, with more than 10,000 members around the world.
Members of the Institute have conducted fieldwork in Africa, Asia, Europe, and the Americas. The AIA has further promoted archaeological studies by founding research centers and schools in seven countries and maintains close relations with these institutions, including the American School of Classical Studies at Athens, the School of Classical Studies at the American Academy in Rome, and others.
Institute headquarters are located at Boston University, 656 Beacon Street, Boston, MA 02215, tel. (617) 353-9361, email aia@bu.edu.
The AIA operates a moderated email discussion list, called aia-l. This list provides a forum for discussion of archaeological topics, particularly topics relating to the use of modern technology in archaeology, and a dissemination system for news items and announcements of conferences, field schools, academic positions, and so on. If you wish to subscribe to the list, please email the message, "subscribe aia-l," to majordomo@brynmawr.edu. A welcome message will provide further information about the list.

The AIA Sponsors Three Lectures a Year held at the University of Missouri-Kansas City and The University of Kansas. Please see the Events page for current lecture information.
