MFA IN CREATIVE WRITING & MEDIA ARTS
UMKC's English Language and
Literature faculty now offers the degree Master of Fine
Arts (MFA) in Creative Writing and the Media Arts.
This interdisciplinary degree builds on the existing MA
in English with a creative writing emphasis. It is
a combination program created out of closely allied
existing programs in English, Communication Studies, and
Theatre.
The MFA curriculum provides
students the academic and intellectual resources and
environment for exploring their own creativity and that
of others. The rigorous 42-semester-hour program
will provide learning opportunities in writing, literary
publishing, broadcasting, screen and stage writing, and
production skills. UMKC's program is designed to prepare
students for careers as literary artists: authors,
playwrights, poets, teachers screenwriters, and other
literary writing fields.
The Master of Fine Arts in
Creative Writing and the Media Arts is a studio/research
degree that is based on the concept that successful
writers grow from a deep understanding of the best that
has been written and from a powerful drive to push the
traditions of writing within and without their own
genre, time, language, and medium.
