Master of Arts in Economics

The Master of Arts in Economics program at UMKC encourages students to extend the reach of their scholarships to acquire a wide-ranging foundation in addition to technical mastery of theory and quantitative methods.

The M.A. in Economics is designed as a preparation for further graduate training at the doctoral level and for professional positions in industry, business, government, teaching and research. The program aims to provide students with a level of training that will enable them to read articles in economic journals and important books in economics. Students will develop the skills necessary to understand and critique different theoretical models and technical methods.

Interdisciplinary Ph.D. in Economics

The Interdisciplinary Ph.D. in Economics helps student develop knowledge and skills for independent research on the fundamental questions of the present and future. The world of the future will require scholars with a global approach to problem solving.

The IPh.D. in Economics program spans traditional boundaries among disciplines. It is designed to provide self-directed students with academic training at the highest level, while allowing their participation as colleagues in research of fundamental importance.

At UMKC, we emphasize a heterodox-pluralistic approach to economics. We train students to teach in economics programs at liberal arts colleges and research universities in the United States and abroad, and to conduct research in economic theory, applied economic issues and policy-oriented problems.
