Dan Mahala is an Associate Professor of English and directs the Composition Program at the University of Missouri-Kansas City. His research areas include rhetorical history and theory, critical theory and cultural studies, English education, composition, and history of the discipline. He has published widely on reform movements in English studies and he is currently working on a book titled New Media for Civil Society. His work has appeared in journals such as College English, JAC, Pre/Text, Writing Program Administration, and The Writing Center Journal. His current teaching focuses on connecting writing and academic inquiry to local environments and to the immediate needs of students and local communities.
