Entry
Form for the llus W. Davis Writing Competition
2008‑2009
Please complete all
information on this entry form and staple it to your entry. An entry form
should accompany each manuscript that you enter. Do not write your name
anywhere on the manuscript. Manuscripts should be double-spaced, typed, and
bear the title and page number on each page. Please be sure your manuscript is
edited for typing, grammatical, or any other errors which would hinder a close
reading. If Internet texts are used, please be sure to document according to
current citation standards. These may include paragraphs, parts, or other
numerical information provided by the Internet source. Submit all entries to Kristin Huston,
Editor of this year's Sosland Journal, in 106 Cockefair Hall,
before 4:00 P.M. on the deadline of Friday, May 8, 2009. If you have any questions or concerns,
you can email Kristin at KristinHuston@umkc.edu.
In addition to this hard
copy, please submit a disk with your manuscript on it. Label the disk with
essay title, your name, and the word processing program you used. If you have
diagrams or images in your document, please scan them using the highest
possible resolution, and save them using a TIF rather than a jpeg file. Submit
all in a sealed brown envelope labeled with your name. If you have more than
one entry, you may put all the entries on the same disk, but you need an entry
form for each essay.
Please include
instructor's assignment with each entry. This will help to make the journal an
effective teaching tool as well as an academic journal of student writing.
Manuscripts will not be
returned. If your paper is printed, it will not be copyrighted, which means
that you can submit it for publication elsewhere after our journal is one year
old. Thank you for participating in the Ilus W. Davis Writing Competition.
