Exciting news about Trumpeter Swans in Missouri
Steve Kinder
on MOBIRDS-L listserv: Friday, July 22, 2005 3:52 PM
For the first time in well over 100 years Trumpeter Swans have been observed
nesting in Missouri. A pair with three young are on a small secluded area
lake. The adults have been identified as coming from Iowa's reintroduction
program. The young birds are several weeks old
now and growing fast.
They are on private land and, to minimize disturbance, the landowner does
not want visitors. They attempted to nest last year but were not successful,
possibly from being disturbed too much. They were seen all winter around the
area. I think this is very exciting for birds and conservation in Missouri.
