Oak Street Residence Hall
The new Oak Street Residence Hall is located within walking distance or a short car ride from the famous Country Club Plaza and many of the workshop sites. Participants have a choice of either double or single rooms with or without linen service. Prices range from $35 to $60 per day. Each room shares a full bath with one other room. Each participant will be furnished with a bed, dresser, desk, study chair and bulletin board. Each room has a micro fridge, small freezer and individual climate controls. All rooms are tiled and have sprinklers and internet hook-ups and access. A continental breakfast is provided with the price of the room. Participants will form a "residence community" in the same wing of the dorm. They will share kitchens, lounge areas, and study rooms. A coin-operated laundry is provided for their convenience and week-long memberships at the Recreation Center are available. Lunch and dinner will be available in the Student Union approximately two blocks from the residence hall or workshop participants may cook in their dorm or walk to a number of local restaurants. We also have reserved a block of rooms at the Homestead Studio Suites Hotel as a housing alternative. The hotel is located at 4535 Main, on the edge of the Country Club Plaza shopping district, about a five minute drive or 15-20 minute walk from campus (depending on your pace). Rooms range from about $62 for a single to around $82 for a double. Telephone 888-782-9473 (toll free). You should mention that you are attending the UMKC/History workshop. Participants will pay for residence and meals with their $500 stipend. An additional travel subsidy of up to $300 will be available to those who fly into Kansas City. Those living within 100 miles of the campus will be given a travel subsidy of $150.
