PATRICK ALMOS PEEBLES
Present and Projected Research:
Patrick Peebles retired from the History Department in 2008 after 34 years
at UMKC. He remains professionally active. In 2008-2009 he carried out
research in Sri Lanka under a grant from the American Institute for Sri
Lankan Studies for a book on the transformation of the colony from a
military outpost to a plantation economy in the period 1833-1850. In the
Fall of 2009 he will be teaching in the Missouri London Program. He is
completing a revision of his reader,
Classics
of Eastern Thought, and continues to work on his microhistory of
the East India Company 1680-1700 as seen through the career of Robert Knox.
Much of the rest of his time is spent gardening, traveling and reading.
