Discussion Groups
- Discussion groups are offered in connection with a specific course. Honors credit may be assigned retroactively for courses completed at UMKC. A course grade of B or higher is required.
- Leaders of the discussion groups are members of the Honors Program and have a good knowledge of the subject.
- The times are arranged by the leader in conjunction with the group.
Contracting for Honors Credit
- Obtain an honors contract.
- Think of a project you would like to do. (i.e. paper, research, experiment, oral presentation, community service project, tutoring group). Note: Activity/PE courses are ineligible for honors credit.
- Approach the professor with the idea.
- Fill out the contract form and sign, and have your instructor complete and sign the form.
- Contracts are due within the first four weeks of the semester.
- New for Fall 2012 - Complete the add/drop form for special honors sections to drop the regular course and add the honors section. The add/drop form is submitted to the Honors Program Director at the same time the honors contract is submitted. Note: The new class number for the honors section will be assigned by the Office of Registration and Records.
- Upon completion of the honors project, fill out the completion form, and have your instructor complete and sign the instructor's section of the form.
- Completion forms are due no later than the Tuesday following finals week. Either the student or the instructor may submit the form to the Honors Program office (Haag Hall, Room 204).
- A course grade of B or higher is required for honors credit.
- If the student requests an extension of the deadline, he/she must email the Honors Program Director with said request before the end of the semester. The Honors Program AA will note this in the student's file and place a hold on the student's transcript. The student will be advised in writing that the completion form must be submitted within four weeks of the end of the semester. If the completion form is not submitted within the allotted timeframe, the Honors Program AA will submit a Course Change form, switching the student to the regular section of the class.
- If the student fails to complete the class or receives a course grade of B- or lower, the Honors Program AA will complete a Course Change form, switching the student to the regular section of the class.
Senior Honors Thesis
All honors students are encouraged to undertake a six-hour Senior Honors Thesis their senior year. The six-hour sequence will be included in the total number of honors credits students need to complete the Honors Program. Please visit the Senior Honors Thesis site for more information.
