Whitney is enrolled as a Master's student with concentration in Mathematics. She says "Ever since I took a course in Analysis, and got my first taste of writing mathematical proofs, I have loved mathematics. I hope to make a career out of teaching and doing research in mathematics..."
Whitney's teaching background includes an Educational Internship at Twyford Church of England High School during a 2005 study abroad program in London, and being a mathematics tutor variously at Rio Salado Community College in Tempe, AZ (2005-2006), at Penn Valley Community College (2006-2008), and at UMKC in the Math Resource Center (2008).
On Nov. 16, 2007, Whitney gave a talk in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics Expository Talks Series, titled: "Benko's New 2007 Proof that: A given axb rectangle R can be decomposed into finitely-many rectangles which can be translated to compose another given parallel cxd rectangle R' if and only if area(R) = area(R') and a/c is rational."
On April 11, 2008, she presented a poster titled "Graphs Based on Vector Spaces over Finite Fields" at the eighth annual
SEARCH Symposium for Research and Creative Achievements in Pierson auditorium, winning First Prize in the "Physical Sciences and Mathematics" Division. Her SEARCH faculty mentor was Liana Sega.
