Sam's previous teaching experience, in addition to the courses listed above, includes two semesters at UMKC as an SI (Supplemental Instruction) leader for College Algebra, being an Athletics tutor since 2006, and teaching ACT preparation for Kauffman Scholars. Since 2004 he has also been a UMKC track and field athlete in throwing events.

On Dec. 1, 2006, Sam gave a talk in the department Expository Talks Series titled: "A Proof of the Fundamental Theorem of Algebra using D'Alembert's Lemma of 1746." Also, in September 2007, his paper "George Berkeley's Mathematical Philosophy and the Calculus", written for Math 464 WI in Winter 2006, was published in Lucerna, the Honors Undergraduate Journal.
