Ryan is pursuing a Master's degree in Mathematics. He has taught for Sylvan Learning Centers, and has substitute-taught for the Lee's Summit R-7 School District. Since 1999, Ryan has variously been a copy editor and writer for Andrews McMeel Universal in Kansas City, and an event designer for Artifact Entertainment in Mesa, Arizona. When he graduated with his mathematics degree from UMKC in 1997, he received departmental honors.
