Mengying is enrolled as an Interdisciplinary Ph.D. student with coordinating discipline Mathematics concentrating in Statistics, and co-discipline Molecular Biology & Biochemistry. Her interest is in becoming a professor of Statistics.

She graduated first among 38 mathematics majors at Hebei University. In the 2007 China Undergraduate Mathematical Contest in Modeling, she and two teammates won first prize for "A Study on the Optimization Model for the Selection of Bus Routes". In the 2008 COMAP (Consortium for Mathematics and Its Applications) Mathematical Contest in Modeling, her team earned an Honorable Mention for "Sudoku! Have Fun!". Mengying sees graduate school as "the confluence of my childhood dream, my academic background and my professional interest."
