Adjunct Lecturer Positions (Part-time)

[As of the date above.]

• The Department of Mathematics & Statistics regularly hires Adjunct Lecturers to teach courses part-time, primarily
  at the 100 or 200 level every semester, Fall, Spring, and Summer.

• For a list of currently offered courses with days and times and
  whether still in need of an instructor, see Current Semester Course Schedules (Fall, Spring, Summer are listed).
  Please check these schedules before contacting us.

• Adjunct Lecturers are hired semester-by-semester.

• Minimum Qualifications:
  • Master's Degree in Mathematics (Applied Mathematics, Statistics, etc.)
    OR
    Master's Degree in Secondary Mathematics Education
    with a minimum of 18 graduate hours (usually 6 courses) in Mathematics required.

  • Evidence of Excellence in Teaching Mathematics

  interest, availability, teaching effectiveness, departmental needs, and so on.

Graduate Teaching Assistant (GTA) Positions

• Graduate students seeking a graduate degree from the Department of Mathematics and Statistics,
• Who usually teach 6 hours of classes, or perform some combination of
  teaching and tutoring work for 20 hours/week, and
• Enroll in a minimum of 6 hours of mathematics or statistics courses in the department
  for graduate credit each semester.

Graduate Assistant (GA) Positions

[As of the date above.]

GAs are Graduate Students in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics
not currently a GTA or GRA in the department:

• seeking a Master's degree, or
• seeking an Interdisciplinary Ph.D. with coordinating discipline "Mathematics",
• who assist the teaching of certain 3 hour undergraduate courses (usually Stat 235, Elementary Statistics), taught by a full-time faculty member in the department during the Fall or Spring semester,
• whose duties may include grading and helping students as the lecturer sees fit, among other tasks as needed in the course,
• for no more than 10 hours/week for each 3 hour class assigned,
• are hired on a semester by semester basis, and
• who enroll in a minimum of 3 hours of mathematics or statistics courses in the department
  for graduate credit in the semester of their employment.

To apply for a GA position:

• SEND: A letter of intent with full contact information, which may include also a description of previous teaching-related experience, if any.

• SEND: A list of all classes in Mathematics or Statistics taken so far or currently taken as a graduate student (including 400 level classes). The list should indicate the semester and year when the class was taken, where it was taken, and the grade earned in the class.

Math and Science Resource Center (MSRC) Tutors

All applications for MSRC Tutors in Mathematics are reviewed by the department.

• Math and Science Resource Center website
  

• The MSRC tutor program includes a 15 week training program that begins the first week of classes
  and ends the last week of classes. You will meet for one hour each week to address various tutoring
  issues and concerns. Upon completion of this training, each tutor will be certified.
  Participation in these training sessions is a requirement for the position.
