In this talk we'll take a (mostly) non-metaphysical look at principle component analysis, a problem of multivariate statistical analysis.
We show how to convert correlated data sets into uncorrelated (independent) data sets. We motivate by applying the results to real-world data (my investment accounts).

This is a 2008 film by George Csicsery about the six extraordinarily gifted high school students who represented the United States in 2006 at the International Mathematical Olympiad in Ljubljana, Slovenia. The film shows their dedication and perseverance, the rigorous preparation they undertake, and the joy they get out of solving challenging problems. It captures the spirit that infuses the mathematical quest at the highest level.
