Teaching -- List of recent UMKC courses:

Dr. Delaware joined the faculty in 1984 as Mathematics Coordinator of the Mathematics and Physics Institute (MPI), a program located at a UMKC site to teach calculus and physics to gifted and talented high school seniors from as many as 10 different urban, suburban, and rural high schools. He held that position for 19 years, the last 5 as Associate Director, until the MPI was terminated in 2003. Since Fall 2003, he has been full-time on the main UMKC campus.

Dr. Delaware has won several teaching awards including the 1995 Dean's Award for Outstanding Teaching for non-regular faculty, an Educational Partner's Award in 1989 from INROADS (a minority program), and a UMKC Superior Teaching Award in 1984. Since 1972 he has also been a member of the Pi Mu Epsilon Honorary National Mathematics Society. Several of his students have won national and local awards for expository mathematics papers written for his classes.

Since 1988 Dr. Delaware has organized the department series of Expository Talks. Since 1991, he has been a member of the Steering Committee for the annual Kansas City Regional Mathematics Technology EXPO. In 1998 he recorded an entire College Algebra course on 39 videos for UMKC, and in 2005 likewise recorded Calculus I onto 31 videos, all now posted on UMKC's YouTube Channel. In 2004, he created (with Eric Hall) the department website, now sharing duties as a webmaster, and in 2005 (with Eric Hall and Becky Roberts) created a sequence of online Mathematics Entrance Tests. He is currently the department coordinator for the new sequence of Mathematics Courses for Teachers, serves on the Curriculum Design Team for the new UMKC Institute for Urban Education, and is the UMKC Mathematics advisor/liaison/mentor for the new Southwest Early College Campus.
