Dr. Voulov joined the department in Fall 2003. He has a long teaching experience, having previously taught from 1986-1998 at the Technical University of Sofia, Institute of Applied Mathematics and Computer Science in Sofia, Bulgaria, followed in the United States at Michigan Technological University (1998-1999), Truman State University (1999-2000), and Southern Illinois University, Carbondale (2000-2003).

As a student he participated in Mathematical Olympiads in 1970, and has enjoyed preparing selected students for mathematical competitions over the years. He says "In my opinion, an important step in getting students to do research is helping them to develop and improve their problem-solving skills, to make them believe in themselves and feel and behave like winners...I love to work with undergraduates in problem-solving seminars."
