Welcome to the

Missouri Personal Finance Challenge!

The Missouri Personal Finance Challenge is a statewide competition for grades 9-12. This website is to serve as your basic information source about the Missouri Personal Finance Challenge.

The purpose of the Missouri Personal Finance Challenge is to honor teachers and students in grades 9-12 who have demonstrated excellence in mastery of the curricular materials that are part of the new required Personal Finance Course in all Missouri High Schools. The intent is to encourage high standards for achievement in these classes and to provide support and encouragement to school systems, teachers and students for their accomplishments.

The competition will be for teacher-sponsored teams of four students.  Any number of teams per school may enter the competition and the competition is free of charge.

·         Teachers register teams for their online competition.

·         Students complete online competition March 17 to March 28.

·         Top twenty teams in each of four regions advance to their regional city for in-site competitions (Kansas City, Springfield, Columbia, and St. Louis).

·         Top two teams in each Regional Competition advance to the State Finals, May 5 in Jefferson City.

The on-site regional and state competitions will include written (multiple choice and/or true-false) questions followed by a “quiz bowl” with verbal responses to questions.  Every student in the top twenty teams invited to the Regional Competition will receive a T-shirt and a certificate of participation.

PRIZES:  Members of the first-place team at each regional competition and their teacher-sponsor will receive a $500 I-Series Savings Bond, a school trophy and financial assistance for travel to Jefferson City to compete in the state finals.  Second-place teams at each regional competition and their teacher-sponsor will receive a $250 I-Series Savings Bond, a school trophy and financial assistance for travel to Jefferson City to compete in the state competition.

At the state finals, the top two teams from each region will again compete in written and quiz bowl rounds.  Members of the first-place team at the state competition and their teacher-sponsor will each receive a $1,000 I-Series Savings Bond and a trophy for their school.
