Directions to Cockefair Hall
Our offices are located on UMKC's Volker Campus, which is situated in Kansas
City's "Plaza" or "Midtown" section about four miles south of Downtown.
This area of town is not near any of the Interstate highways, so if you
are not familiar with the area, finding us will require some patience and
careful navigating. You may also want to have a map of Kansas City handy.
For visitors to the KC area, the Volker campus is generally reached by
either a "northern" or a "southern" approach:
Northern Approach, from Downtown
Downtown KC is a matrix of numbered
and named streets, circumnavigated by the Interstate "Downtown loop." Interstate
highways that intersect with the Downtown loop are I-29, I-35, and I-70.
Named streets run north-south. Take Main St. south from Downtown to 47th
St. Turn left at 47th and go east until you reach the
third traffic light
at Troost Ave. Turn right (south) on Troost and proceed to 52nd St. (a
controlled intersection). Turn right on 52nd and proceed until
you reach the driveway for Cockefair Hall on your right (it will be the
second driveway on your right).
Southern Approach, from I-435
This is the southernmost section
of I-435, which runs east-west and crosses the border between Kansas and
Missouri (at State Line Rd.). At I-435 and Holmes (two exits east of State
Line Rd.), go north on Holmes until you reach a 3-way intersection. At
this "fork," the main part of the road you're on veers to the right (northeast),
and at that point becomes Rockhill Rd. (Holmes at this point continues
due north as a narrow residential street.) So go northeast on Rockhill.
The road will straighten to run north-south again. Keep going north on
Rockhill until you reach 52nd St (a controlled intersection). Turn right
(east) on 52nd and proceed until you reach the driveway for Cockefair Hall
on your left (it will be the first driveway on your left).
Visitor Parking
The parking lot right next to Cockefair Hall is restricted to use by faculty
and staff only (although there is available handicapped parking at this
location). There is a circle driveway next to the building's east entrance,
if you are dropping off or picking up. Guests may park in a garage at 53rd St. and Holmes.
