Pre-Nursing

UMKC offers a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing (BSN) through the UMKC School of Nursing.  Admission into this program is competitive and based on factors such as prerequisite course completion, GPA, and other academic credentials.  Students must have completed 36 hours of college coursework including specific pre-nursing courses.  Once accepted into the BSN program, students will complete three years of clinical coursework.

Students who come to UMKC to complete the BSN admission requirements are termed “pre-nursing”.  Students can be accepted into pre-nursing through two different routes.  Those accepted as Pre-Health students through the College of Arts and Sciences are advised through the College’s pre-health advisors.  Those accepted as pre-nursing through the School of Nursing are advising by the School of Nursing advisors

Sample 4-year and 5-year plans can be found on the School of Nursing’s BSN website.  Pre-health students in the College of Arts and Sciences who are pre-nursing typically follow the 5-year plan consisting of 2 years of pre-requisite courses and 3 years of clinical courses after acceptance into the BSN program.  College of Arts and Sciences students should meet with their pre-health advisors each semester for class scheduling.
