RESEARCH
Professor Peter Singelmann
recevied a UMRB grant to examine the contradictory implications
of political democratization and economic liberalization under the
NAFTA for Mexico's former ruling party (PRI), with a focus on its
two sugarcane growers unions. Its significance rests in its intent
to resolve theoretical disagreements over the relations between
these political and economic processes. UMRB grants are highly competitive,
and Professor Singelmann was among only 9 UMKC professors to receive
funding.
