    Dr. Smith teaches content relating to the nature and history of the social work profession, macro- and mezzo-practice, social research, and social work in the workplace.  His current research interests center on international social work and issues relating to social work education.

    Professor Spencer-Carver teaches qualitative research, advanced practice, integrative seminar, and violence remediation. Her research is focused on consequences of nuclear and intergeneration family violence related to individual and family system victimization. This includes the impact of partner violence on children, the social support for children who had a parent killed by intimate partner violence, children who have experienced trauma, sexual coercion and adolescent relationships, and leadership training in social work education.

     Professor Anderson teaches cultural diversity and practicum integration courses. An inspired lecturer who has 15+ years experience in training, teaching and motivating, she has a strong passion to help students fulfill their goals and objectives.  She is a 2006 recipient of the UMKC Women’s Council GAF (Graduate Assistance Fund)  for her research and book on African-American end of life care, “What Y’all Gon’ Do With Me?”  She has also developed and written a population-based cultural competency training manual specifically for mental health and social service professionals. Her social work achievements include presenting at the North American International Conference on Spirituality and Social Work, Waterloo, Ontario and at numerous local and national events.She is a current member of the National Association of Social Workers (NASW), MO chapter and the Society of Social Work Leaders in Health Care (SSWLHC), MO-KAN chapter.

     Rosalyn has published several articles about the theory base for model fidelity in the wraparound approach to collaborative, ecological, strengths-based family centered team efforts, and is an advisor in the National Wraparound Initiative. 
     Her current research examines theory-based multi-systemic team development at administrative and supervisory levels in Kansas City's response to reports of child sexual abuse. In another theory-based child welfare project she examines staff development and supervision to better engage families in collaborative team efforts with mandated legal respondents. Rosalyn teaches advanced level courses about families, communities, child welfare, and evidence-based practice.

     Betty Blackmon teaches courses on human behavior/social environment, community practice, and social work and oppression. Her philosophy of research is to pursue interests that will develop knowledge in the areas that will have the most impact upon oppressed and  at-risk populations. Her research interest is focused on the implementation of the profession's core concepts of cultural competence and social justice in the day-to-day practice of social work. Her service includes activities on both national and local levels.

     Professor Dyer teaches courses in social work practice within the advanced generalist framework and in the field of substance abuse and mental health. Larry Dyer's primary research interests are in developing and testing programs and community efforts that help people with co-occurring mental illness and substance abuse problems access useful services. He also has interest in cultural sensitivity and developing programs that are culturally sensitive.

     Dr. Nandan teaches research methods and her other teaching interests include macro practice and gerontology.  Her research stream has focused on different facets of gerontology and health care.  She is a strong proponent of interdisciplinary approaches to ameliorate social ills; she uses business acumen with social work skills to address deep-seated societal problems.  For instances, she believes in addressing certain types of poverty through social entrepreneurship.   Her current research stream has an intergenerational focus on political and civic engagement.

     Dr. Rathbone-McCuan teaches social welfare policy and gerontology. Her research and community services interests are in the areas of Medicaid coverage for elderly persons with long-term mental health care needs. Her current research interests focus on comparisons of urban and rural advanced generalist social work practice, dually diagnosed elderly persons, and mental health and aging social policies.

     Dr. Siska teaches courses on social work research, social work administration and planning, and developmental disabilities. Her research interests include developmental disabilities and social integration of individuals with disabilities, organization behavior and climate in faith-based organizations, social work education models, urban practice methods, and international comparison in services to individuals with disabilities.

     Professor Weimer teaches social work practice within the advanced generalist social work practice model. Her expertise covers mental health diagnostic approaches and group work methods. Her research interests cover a continuum of social work practice service delivery models, the advanced generalist model applied to populations at risk, and professional ethics in contextual practice. Professor Weimer is the Faculty Advisor to the M.S.W. Student Organization and a co-facilitator of the UMKC Diversity Empowerment Workshops.
