Unicorn Partners with UMKC Theatre on Irish Comedy Noir

The Lieutenant of Inishmore

By Martin McDonagh

October 19-November 11, 2007

(Previews October 17 & 18)

Kansas City, MO- The play of the season has arrived. It won all the big awards in London, rave reviews in New York, Tony Award nominations for its Broadway run and

now, it's at the Unicorn.  Think Monty Python meets Quentin Tarantino.  At every performance, audiences will gasp, howl and leave the theater buzzing with excitement, knowing they've just experienced something astonishing. It's a wickedly hilarious event that must be seen to be believed.  It all builds to a stunning surprise that has audiences laughing in disbelief.  Produced with UMKC Theatre, Martin McDonagh’s latest comedy-noir The Lieutenant of Inishmore opens October 19th and runs through November 11th.  Previews are October 17 and 18 and tickets can be purchased by calling 816.531.PLAY x 10, online at www.unicorntheatre.org, or at the box office 3828 Main Street, KCMO 64111.

about the Play and Playwright

“Criminally funny.”The New York Times  Ripsnorting”-Time Out New York

“Mad Padraic”, deemed too reckless for the Irish Republic National Army, has only one real friend in the world--a scraggly black feline lovingly called Wee Thomas.  When the cat turns up dead, Donny, Padraic’s father is left to figure out how to tell him without causing a rampage on the island of Inishmore.  Could this situation all be a ploy by the INLA? In Martin McDonagh’s latest comedy noir, friends and family become foes and the only person you can trust is pointing a gun at your head.

Martin McDonagh has had international acclaim for his Irish Comedies including Tony Award nominations for The Pillowman and The Beauty Queen of Leenane—produced by Unicorn in 2006 and 1999 respectively.  His plays have been sold in 28 countries and in 21 languages.
