THE BACHELOR OF ARTS IN THEATRE

Please complete the UMKC admissions procedures at http://www.umkc.edu/admissions/ (domestic students) or http://www.umkc.edu/isao/ (international students).

Students from Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Nebraska, North Dakota: Check the box labeled MSEP at the top of your UMKC Application form in order to be considered for a reduction of out-of-state fees through the Midwest Student Exchange Program.

You are encouraged to attend a Freshman or Transfer Student Orientation, arranged through http://www.umkc.edu/admissions/orientation/.

 

PROSPECTIVE MFA DESIGN/TECHNOLOGY AND STAGE MANAGEMENT STUDENTS:

Two letters of recommendation are requested; each with the attached recommendation form (Click here for Letter of Recommendation form), to be sent to the professor in your discipline listed below. Submit resume and portfolio to the professor. Mail these to:

For priority consideration for Fall 2010 admission to the Master of Arts in Theatre program, UMKC application and transcripts must be received by the UMKC Admissions Office and supplemental application materials must be received by Dr. Londré NO LATER THAN MARCH 1, 2010. Late applications (and applications for Spring 2011 admission) will be considered only if the program has not exceeded its enrollment limitation. In the event that there are openings for Spring 2011, application materials must be received no later than November 1.

Students entering the M.A. program may be asked to take a diagnostic examination in order to determine academic deficiencies and enable faculty to consult more effectively on planning the student’s program.  Any deficiencies in undergraduate work must be made up in the first semester of graduate work if possible, but no later than the first year. In order to continue enrollment in the Master of Arts in Theatre program, a student must maintain a Grade Point Average of 3.0 or higher.

Request three letters of recommendation each with recommendation form. Submit a photo with resume and a statement of purpose including a two page essay:  page 1) the most memorable moment you’ve had in the theatre and page 2) a defining moment you’ve had in life (unrelated to theatre).

Prepare an audition of three pieces:

Two contrasting, 1 1/2 to 2 minute monologues; one from a contemporary play; the second, a dramatic verse monologue of the same length, as well as; third, 16 bars of a song from a Broadway musical performed a cappella or with recorded accompaniment (you provide CD/tape and player).

2011       U/RTA auditions – New York, Chicago, and San Francisco      2011
We will be represented at the 2011 U/RTA auditions for graduate programs in actor training in New York, Chicago and San Francisco. For more information on U/RTA, go to: www.urta.com.

Kansas City auditions 2011
9:00-10:00 am warm-up; followed by individual audition appointments (10 minute slots). Faculty panel of recruiters.
Contact second year actor/student ambassador to arrange attending classes in the days prior to/after the audition or for possible assistance with lodging.
Wear warm-up clothes. Bring audition clothes.
UMKC campus, 4949 Cherry Street, Performing Arts Center, Studio 119. Signs will be posted to direct you to the studio. CONFIRM RECEIPT PRIOR TO WEEKEND or HAND CARRY HS/R, THREE RECOMMENDATION LETTERS, STATEMENT OF PURPOSE.
