UMKC Art Professor’s public artwork seen on famous Sunset Strip

Professor Barry Anderson, chair of the UMKC Department of Art and Art History, has a video on public display in West Hollywood, California.

The piece, Totemic Persona, is a two-channel video animation that was created with the help of UMKC Studio Art students.

“The curator, Jessica, and I discussed the concept of creating a work that celebrated identity and diversity,” Anderson said. “I was very pleased that she agreed with my idea to use studio art students at UMKC as models for the piece.”

This latest public art installment by Anderson was commissioned by Art on the Outside program in West Hollywood and curated by Jessica Rich. It will be on display at 9030 Sunset Boulevard, West Hollywood, CA, through April 30, 2017.

A modified version of the same project will be shown on the interactive kiosks of the KC Streetcar during the summer of 2017.
