MARTHA J. STARR PROFESSORSHIP

UMKC’s College of Arts & Sciences invites nominations and applications for the Martha Jane Starr Missouri Distinguished Professorship in Women’s & Gender Studies. This is a joint appointment in the Women’s and Gender Studies Program and an appropriate department in the College as the tenure home.  Applicants should present a distinguished record of scholarship and teaching consistent with tenure at a research institution. The area of expertise is open, however successful candidates will have a demonstrated commitment to interdisciplinary research and teaching in Women's Studies/Gender Studies. Appointment will be at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor.

MARTHA J. STARR VISITING PROFESSORSHIP

WGS is delighted to welcome Mary Stewart as the MARTHA J. STARR Visiting Professor.  Dr. Stewart is professor and chair of Women’s & Gender Studies at the University of Nevada Reno.  At UMKC she will be teaching Soc/Anthro 300RD, Women and Violence in the Fall Semester of 2007 and Soc/Antrho 414/531 Feminist Theories in the Spring semester of 2008.

Dr. Dianne Mutti-Burke, Department of History, for her research project, "On Slavery’s Borders: Small Slaveholding in Antebellum Missouri."

Dr. Viviana L. Grieco, Department of History, for her paper presentation and future publication, "'Yo arme el brazo de ese valiente que aseguro su gloria y nuestra libertad.' Women, Public Fianances and the Public Sphere in Late Colonial and early Independent Buenos Aires, 1790-1816."
