Elizabeth Anne Berkshire, B.A. Philosophy, 1989, B.A. Art History, May 1991, New Mexico State University; Ph.D., Interdisciplinary, University of Missouri-Kansas City. A&S core faculty in Women’s and Gender Studies; art and embodiment; critical study of psychology and gender; the family as a site for the development and critique of race, class, sexuality and gender. My research examines clinical thought about women who don’t feed themselves, and other gendered acts described as illness within psychology—noting that such thought is not customarily open to critique—especially by the very subjects it addresses. I provide clinical support and consultation to communities of case/care workers on issues of sexuality and gender and, otherwise, spend my time teaching and learning in the classroom. I have taught courses on human sexuality; the sociology of Women; child psychology; and sociology of the Family. Courses I currently teach include Family Life Cycle; Images of the Family in Art & Literature; Intimacy in the Family; Meanings of Masculinities in Contemporary US Culture; Artful Man Embodied; Everyday Experience of Men.
