UMKC College of Arts & Sciences

Writing Center

Student Resources

The Writing Center provides a variety of  free resources to all UMKC students. Whether it’s developing ideas, organizing essays, theses, or dissertations, tutors at the Writing Center work with writers at all levels, undergraduate through graduate, and from all the schools and divisions of the University.

Writing Center Services

Face-to-Face Tutoring

Writers working together is the primary service provided by tutors at the Writing Center.  Whether you're brainstorming or working on your final draft, Tutors can work with you at any stage of the writing process. You can call to make an appointment or walk in, as long as there is a tutor available.

Writer's Hotline

The Writer's Hotline is a free community service offered by the Writing Center that provides answers to grammar, punctuation, style, spelling, word usage, and other writing related questions. Writers may access the Hotline  whenever the Writing Center is open.

To reach the Writer's Hotline, call (816) 235-2244.

Workshops

Throughout the semester, the Writing Center facilitates workshops about topics such as WEPT preparation, basic grammar, MLA/APA, etc. Sometimes professors request workshops for their classes, but otherwise the workshops are open to all UMKC students.
