About the Writing Studio

Students can work with tutors one-on-one.

Peer Tutoring

The Writing Studio at UMKC offers a peer tutoring service that is free of charge for students. Peer tutors can help students with a wide array of writing--everything from English to economics, from music to science, from engineering to business. The Writing Studio's services are available to all students at all levels, from undergraduate to graduate. Tutors at the Writing Studio help students improve both their papers and their ability as writers by focusing on the organization and content of ideas within the paper over the less immediate details of grammar, mechanics, and spelling.

Writing tutors primarily work with writers face-to-face. In order to meet with a Writing Studio tutor, you can walk in or, better yet, make an appointment by calling (816) 235-1146. Tutoring sessions last twenty to fifty minutes. Tutors will work with you at any point in the writing process, so bring whatever you have, whether it is an assignment sheet or your fifth draft. When working with a paper, we encourage you to bring the assignment sheet as well.
