Economics is the study of how people get their livelihood. It begins with the study markets, prices, and economic growth, but it also involves the study of inequality, discrimination, environmental degradation, and other ways that societies fail to achieve equity, broad-based prosperity, and sustainability. The UMKC Department of Economics is known in the Kansas City metro, nationally, and internationally as a center for creative and innovative economics. We offer a unique, interdisciplinary approach to the study of economics. Our students challenge the status quo and find new and better ways to explain the world. Our graduates are in high demand and find employment in business, finance, government service, and academia.
