Students in Communications Studies are active in classes, internships and in our departmental student groups: The Mercury Association, The Student Film League and K-Roo Student Media.
The Mercury Association
The Mercury Association is designed to provide information about educational and career opportunities in all areas of the communications industry. Mercury facilitates the transition from school to work with frequent resume workshops and the annual Internship Brunch, which brings together student and local businesses for a speed interview session and networking opportunities. With a focus on interpersonal communication, advertising and PR, Mercury helps students to find their place in the broad and diverse world of communications.
The Student Film League
The Student Film League supports screenwriters, film production students and others interested in the exciting world of film production in the Kansas City area . SFL’s mission is to create opportunities for film production students to engage with the regional film scene through guest lectures, trips to festivals, work on local productions, internships and workshops.
Starting in 2013,
the Student Film League will sponsor the only student film festival in Kansas City,
Paris des Plaines.
K-Roo Student Media
K-Roo is The University of Missouri Kansas City’s student radio station. K-Roo strives to enrich the UMKC and Kansas City communities by promoting positive communication, information, and entertainment through online radio. K-Roo provides students with the ability to gain experience in radio broadcasting, production, and promotion before stepping out into the professional world.
