Emeritus Professor Driever came to UMKC in 1977 and retired in 2015. He is a former Chair of the Geosciences Department as well as a former Director of the Urban Studies Program of the College of Arts and Sciences. His research has focused on economic development of Latin America, the historical geography of Spain, literary geography, and the geography of travel writing.
