Fengpeng Sun

Dr. Fengpeng Sun is a climate scientist with particular expertise in investigating climate variability and climate change. Dr. Sun develops high-resolution regional climate models and statistical analysis tools to study the Earth’s climate. He is interested in assessing historical climate evolution and projecting future climate change and impacts from a regional/local perspective, which is most relevant to human activities. He obtained his Ph.D. in Earth System Science with a focus on climate dynamics from University of California, Irvine. His Ph.D. dissertation was on El Niño-Southern Oscillation decadal modulation and the large-scale climate dynamics in the tropical Pacific. After his Ph.D., he worked at University of California Los Angles (UCLA) Department of Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences first as a postdoctoral researcher and then as an Assistant Researcher. He joined UMKC Department of Geosciences in Fall 2016.
