Alison Graettinger joined UMKC in the Fall of 2016. Her research focuses on volcanic eruptions using a variety of techniques including large-scale physical experiments, field work, and remote sensing. These projects focus on why some eruptions where magma encounters water are explosive and some are not.

Courses: General Geology, History and Philosophy of Geoscience, Igneous and Metamorphic Petrology, and Understanding and Living with Volcanoes.

Academic credentials: PhD from University of Pittsburgh and Masters of Science from the University of Waikato, New Zealand.

Achievements: Recently, Dr. Graettinger’s database on maar type volcanoes Maar Volcano Location and Shape (MaarVLS) has been published and the database made publicly available
