Professor Ji received a Ph.D. degree, specializing in natural resource management, remote sensing, and GIS, from the University of Connecticut. In 1990s he conducted research at the National Wetlands Research Center, US Geological Survey. He joined UMKC in 1999 where he established GIS and environmental remote sensing education and research programs. He is the director of GIS Certificate Programs (both graduate and undergraduate levels) at the College of Arts & Sciences. Since 2016, he is Chair of the department. He has served editorial boards of many academic journals, including Wetlands (past), Landscape & Urban Planning (current), and Social Ecological Practice Research (upcoming). He was a US Senior Fulbright Scholar to Germany in 2006.
Recent research interest: urban landscape dynamics and wetland assessment methodology studies using geospatial technologies (GIS, remote sensing, etc.).
Courses: Introduction to GIS, Advanced Geographic Information Science, Environmental Remote Sensing & Digital Image Analysis, and many special topics.
Personal interests: travel, photo-taking, music.
