About

Professor David Freeman is a Dutch Atlantic World historian with an interest in trade. His first book, A Silver River in a Silver World, 1648-1678 (Cambridge, 2018), studies Dutch merchants in Buenos Aires.

Dr. Freeman was born in Minnesota. He earned his B.A. at the University of Minnesota at Duluth and his M.A. and Ph.D. at Emory University. In pursuing his research, he has lived in Buenos Aires, Amsterdam and Seville. Before joining UMKC, he taught at the University of Georgia and Reinhard College. He teaches courses in history and religious studies about Christianity and the Reformation.
