Psych Pool Research Participant Policies and Procedures

Please first read the Psych Pool page.

Who can participate in Psych Pool studies?

Participation in most research projects is open to all UMKC students, faculty, and staff; but varies depending on the study. Individual study descriptions will indicate eligibility requirements. Participation in research by those who are under 18 years of age is permitted for a smaller pool of studies. Anyone younger than 18 yrs. must have a parent or other legal guardian sign a Parental Consent Form available from the researcher leading the study.

Study Sign-up

Participants may sign up for studies using Psych Pool. After signing up, you will receive a confirmation e-mail with further instruction. Please make a note of the building and room number, date and time of your appointment; as well as the name of the experimenter. After you participate, the experimenter should assess credit (unless this is a paid study) within 24 hours. If you have not received credit after 24 hrs, contact the experimenter. The use of factoring these credits into your class grade is at the discretion of the instructor.

Credits and/or Compensation

  • Participation credits are assigned in 1/2 hour increments. Participants receive 1 credit for each hour of research participation, and 1/2 credit for each half-hour.
  • Many studies offer compensation; read the description of each study carefully. For studies that offer course credit, check with your instructor to ensure that this experiment is appropriate and applicable for credit.

You can log into Psych Pool to cancel a research appointment. Cancellations must be made at least 24 hours prior to the scheduled start time. The system will not allow cancellations within 24 hours of the start of an appointment.

If you feel that you have been treated unfairly by an experimenter, you may petition the faculty coordinator to resolve the dispute. E-mail the Psych Pool Administrator for information.
