Newly Admitted Students
Students who have just been admitted into the UMKC School of Social Work have little latitude concerning which classes they enroll in during their first semester. There are three categories of students admitted into the program: Full-time, Part-Time, and Advanced Standing BSW. The Advanced Standing BSW can be either full or part time.
Full-time students who have been admitted into the program and are not transferring any MSW foundation courses will only have the option of enrolling the in following courses during their first year:
The first two semesters of the part-time students’ program are 6-9 credit hours each.
Advanced Standing BSW Students
Students who are accepted as advanced standing students must have a Bachelor of Social Work degree from a program accredited by the Council on Social Work Education. Advanced Standing BSW students take 6 Credits Hours of Masters level coursework to bring them up to the same educational level as Traditional Standing students who have finished their first 30 hours of required courses. These bridging courses (SOC-WK 5538 and 5539) are only offered during the Summer semester. Applicants who wish to start earlier may take approved electives prior to completing their bridging courses
