Welcome to the UMKC chapter of the Society of Physics Students (SPS).
Membership in our chapter of SPS is free and open to any student at UMKC. We are one of nearly 700 chapters in colleges and universities in the United States.

5/01/2013 - Slayer Exciter

For today's meeting, members met to construct some physics wizardry! The slayer exciter is an incredible device that will allow for fluorescent bulbs to be lit without being attached to any wires!! Check out the pictures below!

-SPS NATIONAL MEMBERSHIP-
Members were once again encouraged to sign up for national membership to the Society of Physics students.

4/17/2013 - Hero's Fountain

For today's meeting, we gathered in Flarsheim 262 to discuss matters of business and construct hero's fountains. Below are some of the items that were discussed:

-SPS NATIONAL MEMBERSHIP-
Members were once again encouraged to sign up for national membership to the Society of Physics students.

-OFFICER ELECTIONS-
Members were reminded that at the next meeting, we will have officer elections. It is very important for all members to be in attendance.

-SIGMA PI SIGMA INDUCTION-
We are planning to have an induction ceremony for those eligible students on May 6th @ 11:00 AM. Please see Professor Kruger or yan as soon as possible.

4/05/2013 - 4/06/2013 SPS Zone Conference

On April 5th and 6th, the UMKC SPS chapter hosted the SPS Zone 12 Conference. All who attended had a fantastic time! We met on Friday night for some socializing, pizza, LN icecream, pen bows and mini spud guns. On Saturday, we were incredibly honored to have Professor Alice Bean (KU) who worked on the Compact Muon Solenoid project at CERN speak on the discovery of the Higgs Boson. Four exceptional students talked followed and then everyone had lunch catered by SPS Officer favorite - Oklahoma Joe's. After lunch, awards were given to the talks; a message was heard from Zone Councellor Williams; and Professor Kruger and officers showed off some of the more impressive demos constructed by the chapter.
